This is a large, sturdy bronze brooch. It is 2 1/2 inches across and weighs 2 1/3 ounces. It has a stainless steel pin on the back.
This is a heavy brooch suitable for wearing on sturdy clothing, a jacket. a fur, or something else that can accommodate the weight.
This bronze brooch was inspired by a Saxon brooch in the British Museum called the Strickland Brooch. The Strickland Brooch is an Anglo-Saxon brooch dated to the mid 9th century. Like the original my brooch features four stylized dog heads facing out and four more facing in joined by interlaced lines. The four interlaced knots around the edge of the brooch featuring bird heads are derived from the Lindisfarne Gospels, an illuminated gospel book produced around the year 700 in a monastery at Lindisfarne and now 2024 on display in the British Library in London. I have added some generic knot work to fill out the design.
The brooch is a striking accent piece when worn on a tunic or dress. They can also be worn as a pair for apron brooches.
