Jerry Fels founded Renoir of California in 1946 and Matisse Ltd. in 1952, both makers of copper fashion jewelry. Renoir pieces were inspired by the Arts and Crafts era when copper was a favorite of artisans producing hammered hollowware. Copper jewelry is generally considered costume or fashion jewelry because copper is a base metal rather than a precious one however some fine jewelers and artists made copper their specialty including New York modernist jewelers Sam Kramer, Art Smith, and Francisco Rebajes.
This Jerry Fels "Renoir" Copper Stylized Leaf Brooch with spiraled stem was made in the 1940's to 1950's as confirmed by the safety clasp and "Renoir" signature on the back of the leaf. The brooch which measures 4.0" long and 2.0" wide is in very good condition with no detectable wear however there is natural tarnishing of 2024 the copper due to age (see photos). This gorgeous Renoir Copper Stylized Leaf Brooch would make a wonderful gift for a friend, family member, or yourself!
The brooch will be carefully packed in a cardboard jeweler's box then packaged and shipped USPS Priority Mail which includes tracking and insurance.
