Product code: Texas "General Robert E Lee" 2024 Framed Vintage Postcard

This is a very attractive hand-colored postcard showcasing Alexander Phimister Proctor's 1935 bronze sculpture of General Robert E Lee on his horse Traveller. The sculpture was dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1936 and placed in Dallas' Oak Lawn Park, subsequently renamed Lee Park. In 2017, the sculpture was removed under the order of Dallas' mayor and relocated to a storage facility. Lee Park was stripped of its name and reverted to its original name of Oak Lawn Park. In June 2019, the sculpture was put up for auction and purchased by a private interest. This postcard symbolizes a very unique and controversial chapter in Dallas history.
