This is a pair of beautiful antique porcelain figurines with planter/vase openings. They were made in 1875 at the Carl Schneider factory in Grafenthal, Thuringen Germany.
One is a girl figurine and one is a boy figurine. They each measure 5.5" tall and 4" wide. The girl has some rust inside the vase. The 2024 boy has a repair on the back of the vase. Please see photos for both of these defects. There are no additional cracks or missing material.
The colors are gorgeous and vibrant. The girl is wearing a blue skirt with a yellow open cover and red tied corset top with ruffled sleeves. She is holding a bunch of flowers and wearing red shoes. Her hair is done up in the late 19th century style, similar to Marie Antoinette. The boy is dressed in brown knickerbockers with white tights and black shoes. He's wearing a ruffled chest pink shirt with a collard yellow jacket and the ruffled cuffs of his shirt are showing out the sleeves of the coat. His hair is curled at the ends like a powdered wig.
Both figurines are sitting on an ornate basin that wraps under their feet. The basin has a light green glaze and is trimmed in gold around the top. The scroll work continues around the back where it's blended with some cross hatching.
These are truly a masterpiece from the German master of porcelain himself, Carl Schneider.
