Dictionary Drawings are a daily sketch series I do as a warm-up exercise. Fans vote on which word they want to see and I attempt to draw it within a couple of hours. So drawing number #80- Berserker, an ancient Norse warrior who fought in a wild frenzy. Likely this word derived from a Middle English word meaning “bear shirt”- as the English experienced these tranced fighters wrapped in literal bear furs. This Viking tradition originated with hunting magic- cults sprung up between the Germanic peoples, the boar, the wolf, and the bear. They are almost always depicted separately- except in rare circumstances, where it's theorized tribes joined together to a mutual cause, such as against the Romans. Nowadays it is used most commonly to describe a blood-crazed adrenaline-fueled animalistic brute in fantasy games.
