Chasing and Repousse is the art of shaping metal into dimensional shapes with small chisels 2024 with a wide range of working end designs. The twisted ends of the tools are hit with a chasing hammer, while the working ends are held in position with the holding hand.
The sheet metal is usually held in pitch as chasing tools strike the metal. The metal is pushed down and forms or designs will emerge as the process continues. Chasing usually refers to the metal being worked from the top side while the term repousse indicated the metal is worked from both sides.
Fluting chasing tools are designed to form both straight and curved flutes in sheet metal. The fluting chasing tools can make smaller and more defined flutes than is possible with hammer fluting with stakes alone. These tools are also excellent for texturing metal surfaces.
