9 1/4" Decorated Pottery Pie Plate
Decorated with a thin white glaze layer that lets the clay color show through and with a blue heart design.
Marked on the bottom "N Owens" and dated 1990. I imagine this was made at Original Owens Pottery (aka Owens Pottery) though it is not stamped as such. Also known as Nancy Owens Brewer, or simply Nancy Brewer, she is a well known potter and daughter 2024 of the famous ML Owens.
I have read that Original Owens Pottery is the oldest continuously operating pottery in North Carolina, which certainly seems likely given their founding date of 1895.
Chip on the underside of one ruffle and two small chips that kind of blend into the clay color on the top side of the ruffled rim. No other damage noted. Due to the size and placement of the chips the piece still displays quite nicely. Please see photos for best details.
Measures roughly 9 1/4-9 1/2" in diameter and a bit over 1 3/4" tall.
